With reference to Colonial Office

Regulation No. 100, I have the honour to state that Mr. J.

I. Plummer Chief Assistant in the Hongkong Observatory,

has applied for leave of absence on full pay for 4 months

from the 10th. of next January and has expressed his

desire to retire from active service at the end of that

period. Mr. Plummer has already passed the age of 65 years

and has put in 20 years and 2 months (nearly) of active

service, less 8 months on half-pay in 1905, or 19 years

and 10 months for the purpose of reckoning the amount of

pension.

In the circumstances, as there are

several precedents for allowing vacation leave prior to

M.P.,
